Our Approach

ASSET BASED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (ABCD model)

At SECTA, we employ the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) model to empower communities and drive sustainable change. This approach focuses on identifying and leveraging the strengths, talents, and resources within communities, rather than dwelling on their challenges. By starting with what people already have—their gifts, skills, and assets—the ABCD model enables communities to unlock local opportunities and tackle pressing issues collectively.

Unlike deficit-based methods that prioritize external aid, the ABCD approach nurtures community-led action, fostering a sense of ownership and leadership among residents. It builds strong relationships for mutual support, encouraging individuals and groups to work together to achieve common goals. Inclusivity is at the heart of this model, ensuring that every member of the community has a voice and a meaningful role in shaping their future.

SECTA’s ABCD model also champions the value of small, grassroots initiatives. These efforts often serve as powerful catalysts for broader change, using storytelling as a tool to share experiences, inspire action, and promote learning. Grounded in hope and possibility, the approach encourages communities—even in the most challenging situations—to imagine and create sustainable solutions for their well-being and environment.

By leading from behind, SECTA shines a spotlight on the power of local communities to take charge of their development. The ABCD model is not just about solving problems; it’s about cultivating resilience, fostering collaboration, and building a sustainable foundation for future generations.
